Great post, Mom! One thing to add...I'm assuming that you're advising parents to read newspaper clippings and historical documents to OLDER children. From personal experience, I LOOOOVED times when Dad read Peter Pan to us...in comparision to hearing civil war histories!;) As we got older, histories became more enjoyable, but we did "dread" civil war documents a bit more at first...whereas Connor and I jumped at the chance to hear Daddy read about Neverland!
Also, to anyone reading this post, voice inflections are amazingly captivating and thrilling. Please make the effort to dramatize your voice...your kids will love it! And, one last thing...just let loose! If you're nervous about "acting", your kids will probably know. Hope ya'll have a lovely time reading together!!

You know, I did NOT read to my kids anymore once they were old enough to read on their own, and I *really* regret that now. I often hear my 16 yod mispronounce things in ways that would be comical were she 6, but at this age, it's not so cute, to say the least. I'm sure that I had read books to her more often, her vocabulary and pronunciation, while still a "work in progress," would be leaps and bounds ahead of where they are. Ah well, I still have a few impressionable ones left...! We recently finished reading A Tale of Despereaux aloud, and we're moving on to Heidi next. These 8 pointers are great - I needed to hear every one of them! Thank you! :)
