Meredith is home from college on fall break, and she has been baking yummy pumpkin cookies. Easy enough for the kids to bake, pumpkin cookies are a good excuse for a thematic break from the regular homeschooling routine. Why not wake the kids up one day next week, and surprise them with a day of pumpkin festivities. Here’s a list of ideas for fun-filled cheer:
- Bake iced pumpkin cookies with raisins and pecans
- Create pumpkin shaped bingo cards with 16 squares (fill with math facts or vocabulary words)
- Play “hot pumpkin” in the backyard (the one holding the pumpkin when the music stops is out)
- Give impromptu speeches on your favorite pumpkin carving story
- Let the older kids write their own jeopardy category questions on pumpkin trivia then quiz Dad when he gets home
- Go on a hayride, and let each kid pick out a pumpkin
- Make pumpkin costumes out of a $ 6 orange pillowcase set from walmart
- Guess how many seeds are in an average pumpkin, carve it with personality, then count the seeds and roast them
- Build a cardboard catapult, and chuck some mini pumpkins in the backyard
- Go to the library, and get some pumpkin books for read aloud time
